COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this interactive virtual class, receive training and award-winning materials from Project WILD, Project WET, and Project Learning Tree to engage upper elementary students in learning about Idaho ecosystems. The class includes three synchronous Zoom sessions (up to 4.5 hours), with most coursework done asynchronously. For part of the class, you will choose one of the curricula (WILD, WET, or PLT) to explore in more depth and receive that program’s comprehensive activity guide(s). You will leave the course with plans to use materials from the course with students, whether teaching in the classroom or remotely – both indoors and out.

WHEN:  Zoom sessions: February 18, March 18, April 8 from 7-8:30 MT / 6-7:30 PST.

EDUCATIONAL GOALS/OBJECTIVES

Students will:

• Identify terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems of Idaho, such as desert, forest, grassland and wetland.
• Compare and contrast the organisms that occupy different Idaho ecosystems.
• Construct a model to describe the movement of matter among plants, animals, decomposers and the environment in at least two Idaho ecosystems.
• Effectively navigate and use course materials.
• Demonstrate how activities and resources from the workshop address district curriculum and Idaho standards.
• Use activities and other resources from the workshop to engage students in experiential learning in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings.

 CREDIT REQUIREMENTS

• Register for class at https://idahoforests.org/plt and partner university if seeking PD credit. 
• Attend and participate in all class sessions and activities.
• Complete an assignment that includes pre-course and post-course work.
