WHAT: A hybrid (in-person + virtual) training for 6th-12th grade teachers and counselors over a range of dates. In addition to two in-person days, there will be pre and post Zoom session and coursework.
WHERE: Coeur d’Alene, ID area (locations TBD)
WHEN:
- Intro 1-hour Zoom session: June 15, 2021
- Other virtual coursework completed on your own between June 15 and July 8.
- In person: June 30-July 1, 2021 (details on locations and times to follow). 8:30 am start.
- Wrap-up 1-hour Zoom session: July 8, 2021
WHO: Local school counselors and teachers of 6th -12th grades, especially if you engage youth through career education, agriculture/natural resources, CTE, sciences, social studies, language arts, math, technology, engineering, mechanics and/or STEM. Participants should be currently active in their career, with the expectation of working with school students in the upcoming school year.
WHAT: Explore beautiful forests • Identify trees • Investigate sustainable forest management • Experience proven standards-based activities to use with your students • Learn about careers • Tour a high-tech sawmill • Network with colleagues • Interact with people who care for forests and make products you use every day • Touch the future forest at a seedling nursery • Enjoy delicious meals • See the full-circle process of making products out of trees while sustaining forest ecosystems • Be motivated to share hands-on activities, knowledge, experiences and passion with your students!
CREDIT: 2 optional credits are available through Boise State University and Northwest Nazarene University
COST: The Mini-SFT is FREE thanks to generous sponsors!! Your $50 deposit will be refunded to you when you complete the course. Tour participation is limited to the target audiences. Space on each tour is limited. A waiting list will be maintained.
